Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Leh (11,500 feet)

 

  •  Arrival in Leh: Arrive in Leh by flight. It’s recommended to arrive early to allow your body to acclimatize to the high altitude.
  •  Rest and Acclimatization: Spend the day resting and allowing your body to adjust to the altitude. Drink plenty of water and avoid any strenuous activities.
  •  Evening Stroll: In the evening, take a short walk around Leh’s main market (Leh Main Bazaar) to explore the local shops and cafes.
  •  Enjoy dinner at your hotel or at one of the local restaurants, serving Tibetan and Ladakhi cuisine.
  •  Overnight stay at Leh hotel.

Day 2: Exploring Leh and Surroundings

 
  •  Leh Palace: After breakfast, head to the Leh Palace, an iconic structure that offers panoramic views of the entire town of Leh.
  •  Shanti Stupa: Visit the Shanti Stupa, a beautiful white-domed structure, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings with breathtaking views of Leh and the surrounding mountains.
  •  Thiksey Monastery: Take a trip to Thiksey Monastery, a spectacular Tibetan Buddhist monastery perched on a hilltop. It’s famous for its large Maitreya Buddha statue.
  •  Hemis Monastery: Visit the famous Hemis Monastery, one of the largest and richest monasteries in Ladakh. It’s renowned for its annual festival held in June-July.

Day 3: Nubra Valley

 

  •  Early Morning Drive to Nubra Valley: Leave early in the morning for Nubra Valley, which is about 5-6 hours by road. The journey will take you through the famous Khardung La Pass (18,379 feet), one of the highest motorable roads in the world.
  •  Arrive in Nubra Valley: Check-in to your accommodation in Nubra, whether it’s a guesthouse or a luxury tented camp.
  •  Visit Hunder Sand Dunes: Explore the Hunder Sand Dunes, where you can enjoy a camel ride on the unique double-humped Bactrian camels.
  •  Visit Diskit Monastery: Don’t miss Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in the valley. The monastery offers views of the surrounding desert and mountains.
  •  Evening Relaxation: Relax by the river, take a walk around the valley, or enjoy a cultural performance if available.
  •  Dinner: Enjoy a warm dinner at the camp or guesthouse.

 

Day 4: Pangong Lake

 

  •  Drive to Pangong Lake: After breakfast, start your drive to the spectacular Pangong Lake (approximately 4-5 hours from Nubra Valley). The lake is known for its breathtaking beauty and changing colors.
  •  Arrive at Pangong Lake: Check-in to your accommodation near the lake or a camp. Spend some time admiring the pristine lake and the surrounding mountains.
  •  Explore the Lake: Enjoy a leisurely walk along the lake’s edge, take in the views, or relax and soak in the serene atmosphere.
  •  Optional Activities: You can also do some photography or simply enjoy a peaceful picnic by the lake.
  •  Dinner: Have dinner while watching the lake shimmer under the evening sky.

 

Day 5: Return to Leh and Departure

 

  •  Morning at Pangong Lake: Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise at Pangong Lake, as the colors of the lake are even more magical in the early morning light.
  •  Drive Back to Leh: After breakfast, begin your journey back to Leh, taking in the scenic landscapes along the way. The drive is about 4-5 hours.
  •  Shopping and Souvenirs: Once back in Leh, you can stop by the local market for souvenirs or take a final stroll around the town.
  •  Departure: Head to the airport for your flight back home.

 

Additional Tips

  • Best Time to Visit: The best time to visit Leh-Ladakh is from May to September when the roads are open and the weather is pleasant. The winter months can be extremely cold and inaccessible due to snow.
  • Acclimatization: Spend your first day in Leh resting and adjusting to the high altitude to prevent altitude sickness.
  • Packing Essentials: Warm clothing (even in summer), sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a good camera, trekking shoes, and a first-aid kit.
